Milwaukee resident Elizabeth Wesley has made an incredible discovery: she loves the taste of mayonnaise! “It was the most incredible thing.” Recalled Elizabeth, “I ordered my usual at the local Panera Bread: a roasted turkey & avocado BLT with no mayonnaise. But somehow they mixed it up with a roasted turkey & avocado BLT with mayonnaise. Normally I would ask them to fix my order, but today I was like ““what the hell””.
Mrs. Wesley described the look of the condiment: thick, white, and a little chunky. “I admit I was afraid to eat it. I’ve heard rumors about this stuff. But after my first hesitant bite, I couldn't stop. The eggy, vinegary paste completely enchanted my taste buds”.
Four months later, Mrs. Wesley has become a self proclaimed “mayonnaise maestro”. She has made it her duty to try every kind of mayo she can find . She even started a podcast named Mayocast, where she reviews and compares different mayonnaise brands. “There is no reason why Kraft’s mayonnaise should be so popular” She stated during one of her podcast episodes we unfortunately were invited to. “The 10 grams of fat per serving and the inclusion of high fructose corn syrup is disgraceful! I recommend Trader Joe’s organic mayonnaise instead”. She later goes on to admit that her secret guilty pleasure is Subway’s brand mayo, where she asks the employees to unload as much of the sauce as possible.
“It’s so great to have Liz talking about mayonnaise with me” stated Denise Thomas, longtime friend of Mrs. Wesley and co-host on Mayocast. “I've been wanting to start this show for a while now, but she always refused to. Hey, you should come back next time! We have a special on Miracle Whip” .
You can catch Mayocast on Thursdays every other week at 1:15pm on Milwaukee Public Radio.
